Anze Kopitar and Jonathan Toews Face-To-Face

The Los Angeles Kings announced that they have reached a contract agreement with Anze Kopitar, an eight year contract which comes with a cap hit of 10 million dollars per season.

According to Darren Dreger of TSN, the year by year breakdown of Kopitar’s deal goes as such: $14 million, $13 million, $12 million, $11 million, $8 million, $8 million,$7 million,$7 million. There is a No movement clause immediately and for the first four years, while the last four years of Kopitar’s extension are protected by a limited no trade clause.

Pierre LeBrun added that the Kopitar extension includes a $9 million bonus payment next July 1st and another $9 million bonus in the summer of 2017.

When I originally read about what he was getting, I was laughing at the amount of money thrown at a guy like Kopitar, who has reached the 80 points mark only once in his 10 year career… until some followers (rightfully) pointed to Jonathan Toews‘ contract. Wait, comparing Captain Serious with Kopitar? You must be kidding right? Toews won three Stanley Cups, after all. Oh wait, Kopitar has two… Well then I decided to look deeper into their career and here’s what I found:

So to those who pointed out Toews when I wanted to put down Kopitar’s contract, you are right. If there is no outrage about Toews’ money, then there should definitely be none regarding Kopitar.
